Home Valuation Code of Conduct

Freddie Mac announced on March 3, 2008 that we would join with the New York State Attorney General and our regulator, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO), to implement the Home Valuation Code of Conduct. We share the New York State Attorney General's goal of enhancing the independence of appraisers to protect the integrity of the appraisal process.

In order to implement the Code as efficiently and with as little disruption as possible, we solicited comments from all industry participants from March 14 through April 30, 2008. This official comment period is now closed. Thank you to all who submitted comments.

We are currently analyzing and summarizing all comments received. Under the terms of the agreement, Freddie Mac, the New York State Attorney General and OFHEO will review the comments in good faith and will consider any amendments to the Code necessary to avoid any unforeseen consequences. We will inform Freddie Mac customers of any changes to the Code agreed to by the parties.
